Assessment

This is our current draft of an alternative assessment framework for languages to the one used in the National Curriculum. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the principles to develop students’ language learning skills, and improve attaiment.  The Read Aloud Test and Vocabulary Lists can be used to test the Supporting Strands of the framework. Please note the vocabulary lists are not definitive and should be used as a guide, and adapted to the course that you are teaching.

  • Having tried to apply the levels without having wholly integrated all the principles in my teaching, they become, of course, harder to apply. I feel, however, that the assessment framework has the potential to work well with teaching and learning that is ‘reformed’. So I will continue to work at integrating the principles into my teaching more fully first.
I would wish for a pupil and even teacher-friendly version of the levels and, indeed, the principles. Certainly in my department, it would make it easier to generate interest and possibly application.
